MANHATTAN IS VENUE FOR SECOND FLO DANCE PERFORMANCE

Performance Artist Athena Kokoronis performed an enhanced version of her "Flo" performance piece at the GWB Ramphouse in Washington Heights, Manhattan, on Sunday, September 28, 2008.  Partnering with Kate Shearman, Ms. Kokoronis joined in a performance of a combination of the two artists' previous works, "Brought to You" and "Flo".  "Brought to You" is eerily similar to and easily combined with "Flo," since it's the story of Gail Borden, who, like Flo, experienced a meteoric rise and a devastating fall, (in Mr. Borden's case when his pioneering product was crushed by the advent of refrigeration). Also performing works at the show were Segolene Marchand, Caroline Woolard and others.

Ms. Kokoronis previously honored Florence Ballard's memory with an initial performance of  "Flo" at the Lumenhouse Performance Space in Brooklyn, New York on the night of September 21.  During that performance, a machine threw money at Ms. Kokoronis while she danced to Supremes songs that were constantly and mechanically interrupted.  She also deftly and vigorously cut two pomegranates into numerous pieces, symbolicly offering Flo's talents and artistic fecundity to the crowd.  The artist told Author Peter Benjaminson that she was inspired to peform "Flo" after reading The Lost Supreme:  The Life of Dreamgirl Florence Ballard.
